The news report says Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) ousted 72 people to Haiti on Monday. Among them, 22 were children, there was a two-month-old baby.
These extraditions abuse various orders from Biden, including a command to focus on the extradition of vicious criminals, a 100-day extradition ban that was impeded by a Trump-appointed Texas judge, and a restriction on removals to Haiti that came in light of ICE’s escalation of removals to the unstable country.
A Democratic representative from New York Mondaire Jones said, “ICE is a rogue agency that must be brought to heel.”
The co-founder of the Haitian Bridge Alliance Guerline Jozef said, “They were running two flights in a day in their hurry to deport as many people as possible.”
“I fear for the kids being sent into the middle of this uprising,” said Jozef added. “It’s as if there is a house burning, and instead of taking people out for their own safety the United States is sending defenseless babies into the burning house.”
In the interim, political brutality in Haiti is heightening. Haitian President Jovenel Moïse and his allies are battling with the resistance over a debate about the beginning date, and subsequently end date, of Moïse’s term in office, as per Al Jazeera. Police utilized nerve gas to scatter fights with the president in Port-au-Prince, the capital of Haiti, on Sunday.
